Hello All,

is there a rule to choose the right drill bit for pre drilling and countersink?
It's annoying to always put a drill bit in the drill, than swap it for the little
bit to countersink and than put the scew in.

So I wanted to by one of those bits that do both pre drilling and countersink in one,
however this means I would have to buy multiple size depending what crew I need,

so I was wondering if there is a rule for it or can I use a 3mm drill bit or something similar
everytime independently on the screw size?

Thanks

hey Gepetto...

in most cases i use the rule of thumb that i pre drill with a 1mm thinner than the screw.

so 8mm screw i predrill with 7mm

but it depends which material you are drilling and for what purpose. In MDF close to the edge i predrill with .5 smaller, in real wood making constructions the difference between screw and predrill bit can be bigger.
